Arctic Adventures: Exploring Canada's North by Canoe and Dog Team, by Ian & Sally Wilson

Gordon Soules Book Publishers Ltd., Washington, 1992; paperback; ISBN 0-919574-43-2

This is a very simply told story of a journey the authors made, entirely on their own and largely unsupported except through contacts with local Inuit as they went, down the length of the Thelon River to Hudson Bay. They travelled down river by canoe, overwintered with an Inuit community and then in the following spring set off by dog sledge to explore the coast to the north and south. Whilst with the Inuit they learned how to make their own clothes, train and drive a dog team, and build an igloo. The latter skill, hard learned, saved their lives on more than one occasion. It is simply a delightful and personal account of a married couple travelling increasingly at peace with themselves through a strange and wild land.
